Biogas usually refers to a mixture of different gases produced by the decomposition of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. Biogas can be produced from raw materials such as agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste, or food waste. It is a renewable energy source and, in many cases, uses a tiny carbon footprint.
Biogas can be produced from anaerobic digestion with anaerobic bacteria, which digests materials within a closed system, or fermentation of biodegradable materials
Biogas can be used to generate electricity in wastewater operations, in a cogeneration gas engine (CHP), where the heat expelled from the machine is comfortably used for: cooking, space heating, water heating, and heating processes. If biogas is compressed, it can replace compressed natural gas for use in vehicles, where it can power internal combustion engines or fuel cells and replaces carbon dioxide much more efficiently than usual use in on-site CHP installations.
Biogas is one of the fastest-growing forms of “green energy“! It is considered green energy because it does not pollute the environment, does not create waste during its production, and does not need to be extracted or intervened in the natural environment to be produced.
